Jan '10 Challenge: New Beginnings (VOTE)

We are still accepting general submissions for Week Four of December! New submission week always starts on Sunday.

We accept all types of photography into our general submissions including portraits, nature, animals, macro, abstract, photojournalistm, city and rural, artistic nudes ETC! -- please submit your best! No webcam shots, bad quality shots or we will not accept it. This is a little glimpse into your gallery that will make people want to see more. Whatever your style is, show it!

Monthly Challenge
Entries taken until the 21st of the month. You must be a MEMBER to submit into the monthly challenge each month - ONE entry per challenge, please.

January 2010 Prompt: New Beginnings
Our new challenge has roots in the tradition of new year's resolutions, but this can be anything that represents a new beginning. Feel free to creatively communicate this, and it would be great if you could explain your thoughts in your artist's comments as to why it shows "new beginnings" especially if not so easily seen.

White is the reflection of all colors, a color unto itself. For this contest I want to see your best interpretation of the color white. It can be a black and white photo or color with the focus on something white.

This contest is open to all members, and we will accept ONE contest entry into our contest folder in the gallery.

We are now a GROUP, and there will be growing pains as we try to figure out what everything does and how to work our new widgets. I will not be accepting new moderators at this time unless I come to you, until I figure everything out - we don't need a bunch of chefs in the kitchen right now, if you know what I mean. RULE CHANGES - Must Read if you submit!

Please take the time to read this through if you wish to submit to this group, if you are a member or a current contributor - it pertains to all of you!!

First of all, I want to apologize to each and every one of you that the rules are changing again. Please understand that not only are we as the leaders of this group trying to learn the new system and see what works best for us, but there is also a bug in the system that keeps resetting our controls back to where it doesn't allow submissions and such, which many of you may have run into trying to submit. Please bear with us as we try to configure this group.

I know a few of you have decided to leave the group and I am very sorry to see that, but we do ask for your patience and to please let us know if you have problems submitting due to permissions resetting.

Also thank you all for voting in the poll, I have heard you loud and clear and starting with our next theme and next one word challenge we will be submitting to our GALLERY!

Here are the changes...

We have decided that it is too complicated to have members and contributors, and for this to be a community working together we should merely have members. No member is higher than another and everyone should have the same benefits, so we are getting rid of the Contributor level and only having Members in the group.

We are going to allow General Submissions into our Gallery now. One (1) per week, only - a week being from Sunday to Saturday. I will be doing some special things with our general submissions, but you also get the benefit of more exposure as your work will go to 700+ watchers.

The rules for EVERYONE...

FAVES

Submit ONE (1) work per monthly theme - right now that is in our faves. (New themes will go to gallery)

Submit ONE (1) work per One Word Challenge - right now that is in our faves. (New word will go to gallery)

GALLERY

Submit ONE (1) work per Contest (Current: White) - that is in our Gallery.

Submit ONE (1) work per week into our Featured Folder in the Gallery.

Please let us know if you can't submit because of permissions resetting. Please read and understand these rules. If it won't let you submit-- then wait until we fix it instead of just submitting to anything it will allow.

INFORMATION we all should know!

Now that we are a Group, there are going to be some changes! PLEASE READ whether you are new or have been in the group for years!!

At #camerawhore we have monthly challenges and contests to push you in your photography.

JOINING
Let's make our new watchers and members feel welcome by giving them a visit to their galleries and commenting on at least ONE piece of work!

Please have art photography in your gallery before you join!

Once you have joined, please put the #camerawhore name into either your signature, or the name or icon within your journal, so that we can get the word out to others. Both is acceptable too! You can even put a stamp in your journal if you like.

How to put an icon in your journal-

Here are the options to join our group:

WATCHER
If you devwatch the group, you can see our content but cannot suggest anything for our gallery. Basically you really just watch the group, if you want to keep in the loop of what's happening in our scene.

MEMBER
Choose MEMBER if you want to participate in our group through our monthly challenges by suggesting your work as faves for the group. Your fave suggestions are put to a vote before being accepted.

You can...

Suggest your work into our gallery for our contests and special projects.

Suggest your work to be included in monthly challenges and the one word challenge.

Submit ONE (1) general photographic work per week into our Featured folder.

SUGGESTING YOUR WORK INTO OUR GALLERY

Two ways to submit...

When you submit your deviation in your OWN gallery, choose to submit it into this group's contest or featured (general) as well. Be sure to state in your artist's comments which contest/project it is being submitted to.

If you want to submit work already in your gallery, then go to OUR gallery and click submit, then choose which photo you wish to submit into the CORRECT folder.

Monthly Challenge Submission Rules
DEADLINE Every month we will have a new theme for our challenge. Deadline for entries will be the 21st of each month. Voting will then proceed until the end of the month.

You may use any photo in your gallery for Monthly Challenges, they do not have to be new!

You may only submit ONE photo into our monthly challenge.

When submitting to our Monthly Challenge, please suggest it into the correct folder in our GALLERY. Please make sure that your artist's comments state what challenge it is being submitted to, or we will not accept the submission.

One Word Challenge Favorites Rules
We will be hosting one word challenges throughout the month, and these will be posted on our journal entries and in our journal shoutboard.

Please suggest your work into the correct folder in our GALLERY for the One Word Challenge. You MUST put what OWC your submission is for in your artist's comments.

You may only suggest ONE submission into each One Word Challenge.

General Rules for All Submissions

There are no restrictions on which photography category, subcategory, or image size so long as your entry fits all rules set down by deviantART staff for photography. Tasteful/Artistic nudity is accepted.

You are allowed to enter your own softly manipulated photos, but the original photo must be yours. Editing someone else's photography or stock photos for your entries is not allowed in this group, and if discovered you will be removed from the membership.

The winning entry for the Monthly Challenge will be featured on our journal for the following month, as well as a news feature at the end of each month. All submissions for that challenge will be included in the news feature. Mini-challenge winners will be given a spot on our journal sidebar until the next winner is chosen.

Our Community

This is a "community". A community of photographers, who wish to be challenged monthly in both ideas and technique, a place for us to help and support one another, and cheer one another on. In community spirit, this is what I wish to see from our members.

Visit every new member's gallery and comment on their featured photograph (or at least one of your choice).

Visits to each other's galleries. Well thought out comments, as we establish relationships with one another.

Comments on every submission that is given for the challenges. When you comment on a camerawhore member's piece, you could end your comment with something like "Found you through #camerawhore" or "From a fellow #camerawhore"

Now that our name is getting out to the masses, it's begun to confuse people - this is not a group for "camwhores" - (Definition: A shamelessly exhibitionistic webcam user.) - I did not make up the name of this group, it was given to me, and there has never been a problem before. Again, this is not for exhibitionist photography, it's an art group! You must have ART photography in your account to be a member.}
